The Commercial Driving - Class A certificate program provides basic training in the principles and skills of commercial truck operation. Safe operating practices are integrated into the development of driving skills on the road. Each student must demonstrate proficiency in required behind-the-wheel (BTW) skills such as operating a commercial vehicle safely on public roads through a variety of maneuvers. At the completion of the program, the student is administered the Georgia CDL Skills Exam for a Class A or Class A automatic restricted license.
This program qualifies for the HOPE Career Grant.
Admission Requirements:
- Admissions and Enrollment Information
- Be at least 18 years of age
- This program does NOT require a HS diploma or GED
- Applicants for the Commercial Truck Driving (CTD) program must meet Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements, including possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination, and a drug screening prior to performing any safety-sensitive functions in or around a commercial vehicle. Applicants must also have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the issuance of a CDL or CLP. In addition, random drug testing is a federal requirement throughout the duration of the CTD program.
